Master Piano Recital Series 2017-18 lineup announced

This year’s Master Piano Recital Series features three concerts in December, February and June at Southminster United Church in Old Ottawa South.

First up is an appearance by the Russian performer Sofya Gulyak who was a gold medalist at the 2009 Leeds International Piano Competition, which has also been won by Jon Kimura Parker and Murray Perahia. She will play a program featuring the Pletnev transcription of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.  The 37 year old is returning to MPRS. She has performed at Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Moscow Conservatory and the Kennedy Center in Washington in the past decade.

On Feb. 9, Richard Raymond, will tackle a program of Beethoven sonatas including: Pathétique, Moonlight, Appassionata and Op. 111. Raymond is a gold medalist of the Montreal International Music Competition in 1992. He is on the faculty at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and is a recipient of the Virginia Parker Prize.

Next June 8, Eric Lu, who, at 17, was the fourth prize winner of the 2015 Chopin competition will perform Fourth Prize winner of the 2015 International Chopin Competition will present Schubert’s Sonata in A major and Chopin’s Sonata in B flat minor.
