Ottawa Winter Jazz weekend in new home with emphasis on new technology

Saxophonist Joel Frahm leads the Jazz Fest winter weekend.

The 2020 TD Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest weekend is making a move that many in Ottawa’s cultural community to the renovated Arts Court complex on Daly Avenue that features the newly updated SAW Gallery and the Ottawa Art Gallery. And they’re bringing a lot of new music. 

The jazz festival, which will celebrate 40 years this summer, has a crop of international, national and local talent coming into the space on Jan. 30 through Feb. 1.

The international lineup includes saxophonist Joel Frahm (who performs with Hamilton’s Adrian Farrugia, pianists Dan Tepfer and Jean-Michel Pilc and vocalist Becca Stevens

Local talent includes the quirky Gatineau-based new music band Fet.Nat which made the Polaris Prize short list this past year. Steve Boudreau and Garry Elliott have doubled the size of their duo and Roddy Ellias who will play a duet with Pilc.

The weekend event will also feature panels on digital technology, music making and the issues there in.
