What Makes it Great?: Waldstein Sonata

August 1, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Dedicated to one of his first supporters, Count Ferdinand von Waldstein, Beethoven’s serene Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major, Op. 53, or the “Waldstein” Sonata, is considered one of his most notable sonatas. But what makes it notable? Why do its melodies touch us? Why do they invoke the peace of dawn? Rob Kapilow takes apart the beloved sonata and tells us just what it is about the piece that makes it great. Featuring pianist Suren Barry.

What Makes it Great?: Sonate Waldstein
